Our Visit to Shenandoah National Park: A Photo Journal
Our first stop on Skyline Drive!
Mark and I recently visited Shenandoah National Park in Stanley, Virginia for a week long vacation. Although the first half of the trip was rainy and miserable, it was good to get away from the stresses of our normal lives and just relax with each other. Here are some photos from the trip.
Our first campsite – we had intended to stay at this campground for the full week, but there were no other campers, no staff, and the showers were cold. This site backed up to a cow pasture though and it was so fun waking up with moo’ing friends!

We had a couple of rainy, cloudy days where we just explored the indoor attractions – gift shops, visitors’ centers, restaurants – but we had to stop along skyline drive to get a shot of being above the clouds!
Our second campsite, in the actual park system – we got a ginormous tarp to cover the tent since there was a MAJOR storm rolling in – we were glad we spent the $20 and put in the work to get this baby secured. It seems like every camping trip, we have a monsoon!

Deer were wandering around the campground not 10 feet from our tent! (Chipmunks too!)
This was one of the hardest hikes we’ve done – getting down to the waterfall was so hard on my knees, and going back up was so steep! It was only 3 miles round trip, but a tough 3 miles!

Love seeing the mountains. Very peaceful.
Grew up about 100 miles southwest of Shenandoah Nat’l park in the George Washington Nat’l park.

Cool! Mark and I wanted to visit the GW Nat’l Park but ran out of time – we’ll definitely be going down again soon though!
